I did not catch your message in time to respond but I did see the movie and enjoyed it. I would like a sequel to this. It left your mind wondering. I believe this is what the director wanted.

Would it surprise you that In the machismo driven culture of the Caribbean that ”male rape” is at a near epidemic frenzy. As detailed in Jamaican writer O’Brien Dennis’ ground-breaking anthology, ”The Cries of Men” that chronicles the stories of male rape in Jamaica. The irony is that Caribbean activist (and in Africa too) while decrying the yoke of European imperalism and influence, list ”homosexuality” as the primary obstacle destroying the independence of their people. And, mostly wrapped, behind religious rhetoric, homosexuality is seen as a crime punishable only by death.
It is within this environment, that Bahamian writer, director and producer Kareem Mortimer gives us ”Children of God”, (check out the trailer @ http://www.childrenofgodthemovie.com) Mortimer’s five-time award winning film is one of two African/African American theme films being featured at the 16 Philly Qfest film festival.
Mortimer’s ”Children of God” makes its Philly premiere at the Philly Qfest tells the stories of three very different individuals: Lena, the conservative, deeply religious wife of a secretly gay firebrand pastor; Romeo, a handsome young black man hiding his sexuality from his close-knit and loving family; and Jonny, the conflicted and creatively-blocked white artist in search of himself. Though a bit preachy, Mortimer weaves an intricate and revealing film of good people coping with violent crimes against homosexual and the result of this hysteria on their individual lives.
Show times for ”Children of God” Friday, July 16, 9:30 PM
Ritz East Theater 2 and Sunday, July 18, 4:45 PM
